Benchmark-Based Performance

The purpose of this post is to suggest a benchmarking approach for performance management.

A benchmark is a “standard” or “level of performance” to which someone or something is compared.  Performance management is a management approach that focuses on the achievement of results. Benchmarking is the process of identifying the benchmarks.  Almost anything can be benchmarked.  Identifying critical performance parameters and their respective benchmarks can provide significant leverage towards the high performance of systems, processes and individuals.

The benchmarking process steps are straight forward:

  1. Determine the results you want to accomplish
  2. Identify the critical success factors that lead to the desired results
  3. Establish the performance levels for each of the performance factors in step two
  4. Develop specific criteria and performance levels (benchmarks) for each

At Remote DBA Experts, our focus is on delivering remote database administration service like no one else in our industry.  Thus, our benchmarks are focused on the performance parameters associated with that goal.

This simple approach has helped us hone in on the highest levels of performance for our systems, processes and people.  Give it a try.

The BEST is Yet to Come!
