Make Up Your Mind

The purpose of this post is to suggest that ambivalence (”uncertainty or indecisiveness as to which course to follow”) can be a big detriment to progress.

Every time I think about occasions when I felt stuck in some way, I discover that I was unsure of what I wanted or felt uncertain about it.  I felt “stuck” for the lack of a better term.  Feeling stuck is a horrible feeling.  I do not like it!

If there is something important you want to accomplish but you feel stuck or unable to move forward, look into any ambivalences surrounding the target area.  I am fairly certain you may find some!

Once you identify the areas, explore your trepidations and apprehensions carefully.

The following set of questions can be used to explore ambivalence:

  • What am I most ambivalent about?
  • Why am I ambivalent about “that”?
  • What does “that” mean to me?
  • What would happen if I do “that”?
  • What would happen if I don’t do “that”?
  • What decisions do I need to make in order to move forward with “that”?

Making up your mind will release the energy necessary to either move forward to make the desired progress, or refocus your energy to make progress in other endeavors.

Try it!
